A Night Out in Wudaokou 五道口

This is actually just a super late post for Saturday. I figured I would break each day up so they didn't look like really long posts.

Today was orientation from 9:30- 12pm. They gave us breakfast which was dumplings and sushi... they told us it was a "mixed" chinese/american breakfast. I guess the sushi being from 7-11 counted as the american part?

After orientation we had a pizza party. The pizza was actually really good. I was dying for water when we got there and saw the water dispenser and started to chug a glass of water... it was hot. Welcome to China- no ice, no cold water- unless you buy bottled water. It was funny to see how many Chinese people were in this pizza place; but then again they did invent it, right? Or maybe thats pasta.

After the pizza party we had a group tour to Wudaokou. We thought our teachers were going to come with us and show us around, but they just told us to get on the metro and figure it out- and we did!

Wudaokou is the XPAT city in Beijing. The stores aren't american, but all the clubs and bars are for foreigners. A lot of Chinese people still go to them though.

We all walked around Wudaokou and then got cell phones. This cell phone I have is like one I had in 7th grade and I honestly cannot text on it... it is so confusing! And it was all in Chinese. Thankfully this one kid in my program, JiaoWu has been speaking and learning Chinese now for 8 years so he changed it to English.

After we left Wudaokou we all took four hour naps. Then got ready and went to dinner in Wudaokou at La Bamba, a mexican restaurant.  It so hard eating Chinese food the first few days when you're just starting to adjust, so I can't begin to tell you how excited I was for chips and SALT! I actually found out "tonight" that Katie and Laura are both obsessed with salt too!

After La Bamba we went to Propaganda, Solutions, Club Mango and Global. I found out that the Chinese LOVE to dance.

Thats all for Saturday!

Miss you all.
