Free day to explore Luoyang

Sunday was our free day to explore Luoyang on our own. Heather, Katie, Laura and I checked out of the hotel around 11:30am. We took a taxi to Li Jing Men 丽京门: The typical traditional gate of China. Inside the gate ancient streets, with small shops and restaurants on both sides. We all fell in love with this area. It was really cool to walk around and explore old china.

We decided to take the bus to the hotel but got off at the wrong stop and had to walk 30 minutes to our hotel. On the way we got ice cream and it was delicious!

We left for the train station at 6pm. This time we had hard sleepers. Nobody really knew what to expect. We were all freaking out too because some people were not going to end up with the group. Heather, Katie, Laura and I were part of the lucky group that got split up. Luckily Laura and I were together with Perry. There were 3 other chinese people in our "room". I'm putting room in quotations because there is no door. There are 3 beds on each side of the wall and Laura and I were on the top. Needless to say I hardly slept. The chinese love to hock and smoke. It was definitely a cultural experience and now that I've experienced a hard sleeper, I will never go on a train again if I have to sleep in a hard sleeper.
