Today was a pretty standard day. I had tingli (listening) from 8-9:50 and then from 5:30-8:30 I had my first Intercultural Communication class.
Heather and I are in the same class so after lunch (we got danchowfan... again) we went to the CIEE office to pick up our "book". When we got there they handed us a HUGE stack of papers. We both thought the class was going to be impossible. Each lecture had a ton of reading to go along with it. But... when we went to class we found out that the reading was not mandatory, but encouraged. Our teacher was also feeling sick so our 3 hour class that we dreaded turned into 30 minutes! We were all SO happy.
For the 30 minutes we were in class, we talked about our names (first and last). He asked us why we were named what we were, what it meant to us and how we thought other people viewed us after reading our name. I had never really thought about any of those questions until that very moment. So as usual, I got very nervous and hot. I told everyone how Rachel comes from the bible and my middle name is spelt the chinese way and then my last name.... I told them that my Poppop thinks we are the most important people in the world and we should be able to get anything by just saying our last name. But of course the kids who go to Notre Dame and UPENN didn't think my answer about my last name was up to par. Needless to say, it was a very interesting class. I learned that the name Chloe is a name that a lot of prostitutes have... so if you're thinking of naming your kid Chloe, you should probably choose a new name.
That's about as interesting as my Monday got. Tomorrow I have class from 8-12pm. It's going to be a LONG day. And I have two quizes to study for.
